Los Angeles, CA September 17, 2024 – Female-fronted, multicultural band Circle The Earth, who stretch the boundaries of rock with funk swagger, jazz fluidity, and pop universality, has released the official music video for their newest single “Stuck In The Middle.” PRESS HERE to watch the video, directed by Henry Lipatov (Jennifer Lopez, Kelly Clarkson, Eminem, Fall Out Boy). “Stuck In The Middle,” written by Circle The Earth guitarist Kazuki Tokaji along with Gerina Di Marco and Adrian Jones and produced by Erik Ron (Staind, Godsmack, Bush), illuminates the diverse group’s versatility. Over a slick beat spiked with a loose riff, new front woman Aviva Scott holds nothing back in the powerful chorus: “Between me and you and I, I’m stuck in the middle.” PRESS HERE to listen to “Stuck In The Middle” on DSPs.

“‘Stuck In The Middle’ is about having multiple options on life’s path; each option associated with tremendously different learning experiences, however all of them eventually leading the soul back home,” shares the band.

“Stuck In The Middle” follows Circle The Earth’s recent pop rock single “Numb,” which officially introduced Aviva and her impressive vocals and unique style into the fold. On the track, electric guitars rip, cymbals clash, and Aviva processes the rollercoaster of a toxic relationship aloud. The palpable momentum culminates on a disarmingly chantable chorus: “When I’m numb, I feel everything.” PRESS HERE to listen to “Numb” and watch the official music video.

Channeling the boundary-breaking energy that only music can bring to the world, Circle The Earth quite literally represents three continents and four countries. Founded in 2018 by bassist Michael McBay, the Los Angeles-based quintet notably features Japanese guitarist Kazuki Tokaji, Brazilian drummer Sandro Feliciano, Taiwanese keyboardist Sandy Chao Wang, and vocal dynamo and native Angeleno Aviva Scott.

By subverting any and all expectations, Circle The Earth crash landed as a phenomenon with their debut in 2020. The group gained traction with the singles “Dead,” “Diamonds,” and “Sweetest Pain,” paving the way for their 2023 EP Hey Goodbye, mostly produced by Ethan Kaufman (Avril Lavigne, Ryan Cabrera, DOROTHY). Beyond piling up millions of streams, they have garnered acclaim from Music Connection, mxdwn, BET, The Rockpit, New Noise Magazine, and more. In 2024, Circle The Earth released the single “Maniac On Mute” and formally welcomed Aviva onto the mic at the suggestion of legendary songwriter Diane Warren. Ultimately, Circle The Earth aims to create beautiful and powerful rock music with integrity and an underlying positive message. The group’s cultural diversity is a true message of inclusion, showing the world how those from different places can come together for the greater good and a rockin’ good time.

Where Circle The Earth truly shines brightest is on the stage. The five-piece has emerged as the rare force of nature equally comfortable on a bill performing alongside Oingo Boingo, Drake Bell, or Smokey Robinson. Their dynamic performances are highlighted by Sandro’s vigorous drumming, Kazuki’s guitar virtuosity, Michael’s onstage bass energy, and Sandy’s melodic and powerful keys, which lay the foundation for Aviva’s emotional vocal delivery and captivating stage presence. LA pop rock band Circle the Earth

Globe-spanning rock group Circle The Earth has shared their latest single, ‘Numb,’ as they continue with a busy summer touring schedule.

Hailing from all four corners of the earth, Circle The Earth is based in Los Angeles – but traces their roots to far-flung locations. Bassist Michael McBay founded the quintet, and it features Japanese guitarist Kazuki Tokaji, Brazilian drummer Sandro Feliciano, Taiwanese keyboardist Sandy Chao Wang, and vocal dynamo/frontwoman Aviva Scott (who is also their newest member).

While their border-breaking identity helped them gain global attention when they released songs in 2021, Circle The Earth’s musical stylings – all swagger, jazz tinges, and pop-minded rock – cemented their vast fanbase.

According to frontwoman Aviva, who formally joined the band in 2024 at the suggestion of the legendary artist Diane Warren, “We’re a very outside-of-the-box, colorful, and atypical rock band. We aren’t what you expect when considering rock ‘n’ roll.”

This unexpectedness is borne out in all the songs the band has released. Early songs like ‘Dead,’ ‘Sweetest Pain,’ and ‘New Religion’ received plenty of love thanks to their raw energy and anthemic quality (a rare thing in modern-day rock). At the same time, their debut EP, Hey Goodbye, showcased insightful lyrics and easily identifiable chemistry among the bandmates.

Fans who have witnessed them in person will have noticed the abovementioned chemistry. Circle The Earth is, at its heart, a rollickingly great live band – equally comfortable on a bill alongside Oingo Boingo as they are alongside Drake Bell or Smokey Robinson.

Circle The Earth has unveiled what they’ve been cooking up in the studio recently in their newest single, ‘Numb.’

‘Numb’ marks the first song with Aviva officially holding the title of Lead Singer, so it would always be a highly-anticipated release.

The song itself is an eye-opening look at what it means to wrestle with addiction. Aviva’s voice is characterized by its range – the artist goes from raspy and passionate to delicate and earnest without pausing for rest. This versatility means she can fit a lot of emotion into the track’s economical three minutes.

Beyond being pleasing to listen to, the song is also whip-smart. ‘Numb’ explores the central contradiction behind addictive behavior – addiction can lessen some pain in the short term but heightens everything else in the long term. This contradiction is concise in the song’s chant-able chorus: “When I’m numb, I feel everything.”

Circle The Earth said about the track itself. The new lead singer said, “Numb is about someone battling their emotions and overcoming obstacles in an unhealthy relationship. Even though they want to act like they’re numb, they still feel everything and can’t cover it up. You can try to mask your emotions, but they’re still ultimately there.”

‘Numb’ is available to stream now. A music video directed by Henry Lipatov is also available on YouTube.

MULTICULTURAL MODERN ROCK BAND CIRCLE THE EARTH TO RELEASE DEBUT SINGLE MANIAC ON MUTE

Circle The Earth Enter the Mediabase Top 40 Activator Chart at #65* with their Current Single, “Dead – Remix”

Band to Perform at an Exclusive Industry Showcase at  SIR Studios in Los Angeles on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at 6:30 pm

Los Angeles, CA- February, 2024– Circle The Earth is a multicultural band that creates modern rock sounds, offering cutting-edge new-wave beats that evoke energy and emotion. Their new single, “Maniac on Mute,” will be available on February 21, 2024.

Formed by Mike McBay (bass guitar) in 2018, Circle the Earth rounded out their lineup by adding: Kazuki Tokaji from Japan, who lights up the stage on guitar; Sandro Feliciano from Brazil on drums, Sandy Chao from Taiwan on keyboard and Khadia (vocals). Mike and Khadia are from America. Together, the group offers powerful melodic songs that deliver hard, groove-filled licks that showcase memorable lyrics.

Mike McBay’s story is one of grit and determination. A trained medical doctor, he lost his license after succumbing to drug addiction. His parents, who were steeped in academia, shaped his early years. His parents were science department chairs at Atlanta University (now Clark Atlanta University), a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in Georgia. Mike’s youth was marked by his parents’ demands to succeed and Mike’s dreams of making music. His life led to addiction, which he overcame 13 years ago. “Music was my escape while fighting racism in school and my parents’ academic demands,” says Mike.

Circle the Earth’s new single, “Maniac on Mute,” will be released via Symphonic Distribution on February 21, 2024. The single was written by acclaimed songwriter Lauren Christy and produced by Erik Ron. The new track and forthcoming album were recorded at Grey Area Studios in Los Angeles, CA, in December 2023.

“Maniac on Mute” is about refusing to let your past trauma accompany you into your future. “Who you are now is not who you used to be. The deal to silence yourself is an effort to bury the past,” says Ms. Christy.

The group’s forthright attitude on stage and off is about ethnic inclusion, cultural understanding, international cooperation, personal integrity, and spiritual awareness. “Music brings people together. It offers me hope on a daily basis. The group represents life as positive and uplifting as I continue on my journey to stay healthy,” says Mike.

Circle The Earth’s new song, “Maniac on Mute,” will help heal your trauma through Kazuki Tokaji’s wicked guitar skills and Khadia’s dynamic vocals. Mike Mcbay holds down a steady groove on bass alongside Sandro Feliciano’s banging drums and Sandy Chao’s innovative keys,” adds Lauren Christy.

Circle The Earth’s second single will be released in March 2024, and their full EP will be released in June 2024.

Circle The Earth is a combination of will, timing, and a little bit of luck.

Circle The Earth is a combination of will, timing, and a little bit of luck.

The quintet of lead vocalist Khadia, guitarist Kazuki Tokaji, bassist Michael McBay, keyboardist Sandy Chao Wang and drummer Sandro Feliciano uprooted from their native towns and countries to convene in Los Angeles, unknowingly foraging a musical partnership years after their arrival.

The band looks as different from each other as their sound does to your typical indie soul-infused rock band. Chao Wang, a native of Taiwan, says she was introduced to music early on as a method of expanding her mind and keeping her out of trouble.

“Growing up, there’s access to music because parents want their kids to do music,” she told BET during a recent interview. “I remember taking group piano lessons and I just always knew how to read music, I was in concert bands, marching bands, and once I moved here [at age 10], I’ve just always had that interest in music.

“Moving to America opened that door for me just in terms of I have so much more time to learn and practice and like it because the educational system in Taiwan is pretty strict,” she continues. “I decided to study music and moved out to Hollywood and kind of took off on there. I just wanted to learn, it was never really like I want to be on stage. I want to do all that but was more like I just wanted to learn and get better and that kind of led me to where I am.”

For bassist McBay, the group’s eldest member, his music history helps guide the band – almost as a father figure; however, the possibility of even participating in such didn’t come without its own personal trials and tribulations. A former addict, McBay has been clean from drugs and alcohol for 12 years now, which he says allows him to be honest in life and the music he creates.

“Being in recovery for a long time, the whole point is openness and drug addiction is all about medicating secrets and hiding pain and medicating pain,” he explains. “So the whole basis for recovering from drugs and from any addiction is expressing and revealing vulnerability, opening up about what’s wrong, telling people what the problems are, and what the pain is about and sharing it – and then being open to let the healing happen.

“Spirituality, God, whatever you want to call it comes in and heals those things and allows you to express your life more freely and stop hiding and stop medicating,” he adds. “That carries over to the music.”

Roughly a decade ago, McBay played the role of Circle The Earth’s founder, meeting the Brazilian-born Feliciano, who also grew up in a musical family and began playing percussion as a teenager. As an adult, he began playing gigs in cover bands and played rock and Brazilian music with friends before moving to California to attend the Los Angeles College of Music. It was around then that he met McBay and they met lead singer Khadia.

“After a few years of performing, everybody [I knew] kind of just scattered and started doing their own thing, finding other ways to make money so it just went to the wayside for a little bit but then I was introduced to Michael and it was just like the manifestation of coming back full circle,” she explains. “Michael had started this group and it was 100 percent my dream come true once again. So I was like, Yeah, this is definitely supposed to be it.”

The final piece of the quintet hails all the way from Japan, lead guitarist Kazuki Tokaji who has quite an impressive musical portfolio at such a young age. He started playing guitar when he was 7 years old, and drums at age 10. He graduated from the prestigious Musicians Institute in 2018 and has performed with many talented artists including Grammy-award winner Steve Vai Marty Friedman of Megadeth. Tokaji has also helped write and produce several of the band’s songs.

According to Tokaji the group’s differences not only in culture but background in music is what sets them apart from other bands. “We are all professionals (of different music genres). We all grew up in different states and different countries and we all have different (music) backgrounds. Some of us grew up with (and were influenced by) either Jazz, or R&B, or even Funk, and I grew up with Heavy Metal.”

Put it all together, Circle The Earth combines rock, pop, soul, hip-hop, and even emo music; however, most of their music has typically been heard during shows rather than through streaming. That, though, is about to change.

In early March, after dropping loose singles here and there, the group released their debut EP Hey, Goodbye, which they still wanted to make sound as though fans were hearing it in a venue capacity. That includes the project’s title track, one of their most popular.

“We started really developing it to make it sound live, so that it’s bigger than just a song [or album],” Khadia, a native of Silver Springs, Maryland, explains. “It’s interactive with the audience and I think for the most part, that might be one of our bigger songs because the audience gets to participate and it’s super exciting. We get really great response from that.”

The band says they continue to strive to create music that leaves good vibes in its wake while making the world a better place. On songs like “New Religion” and “Pick Your Poison,” Circle The Earth rebels against simply following the status quo or the pressures of simply getting through everyday life – and that’s relatable to nearly everyone, regardless of where they’re from.

It’s their bond, shared love of music, and companionship that made their varying backgrounds not only easily come together but a source of better understanding of each other and their overall mission.

“There’s a commonality between everybody in this band,” Khadia notes. “The commonality is everyone in our band, we’re like the first and maybe only musicians in our family. My parents come from a science background – they don’t know anything about music. I think that’s really cool that we made it from all over the corners of the Earth here, so confident in our ability, and we didn’t even have that type of structure or family lineage that did the same to kind of tell us what to do. We figured it out. We followed our spirit and it brought us together. It’s amazing to me.”

Circle The Earth Live at the Peppermint Club

Circle The Earth is an energetic pop-rock musical project. Its music conveys a message of cultural inclusion, ethnic diversity, religious tolerance, women’s rights, and equality of opportunity, all based on a premise of underlying spirituality, hope, and optimism.

Michael McBay heads the band, which is managed by Johnny Miller, CEO of TruPitch Entertainment.

“I have been putting together and financing original music projects for 30 years in the Los Angeles area, and Circle The Earth is a natural evolution of that long-time endeavor,” says McBay.

What are some of the biggest challenges you face in managing the band, and how do you overcome them?

Scheduling and booking a group of super-talented, very busy professional musicians is definitely among the biggest challenges of managing Circle The Earth. Generating the finances necessary to maintain and effectively promote a project of this caliber is extremely challenging as well.

What sets this band apart from other rock bands and what kind of audience do they appeal to?

The cultural diversity and the overall look of the band definitely sets it apart. Having a Black female lead vocalist who sings rock, raps, and performs so strongly is also quite unique. Because of these factors, the band has broad international appeal.

What advice would you give to someone who is looking to book your band for an event, and what should they keep in mind when working with a band manager?

We are completely reliable, easygoing, professional, and very fun to work with– please be the same!

What is your message to our Heart Of Hollywood Magazine readers?

All true religions and spiritual paths lead back to the same loving God and not one soul will be lost.

How can people book the band for concerts, festivals, or other events?

Hey Goodbye Ep Review

Female-fronted rock band Circle The Earth recently released their debut EP Hey Goodbye. The band is fronted by Khadia, a former background singer for Imagine Dragons, American Idol, and the American Music Awards, who has also performed with artists such as Prince. Rounding out the band is the talent of Michael McBay (founding member/bassist), Sandro Feliciano (drummer), Sandy Chao Wang (keyboardist/music director), and Kazuki Tokaji (guitarist/songwriter). Blending a variety of genres such as rock, pop, soul, and hip-hop, Hey Goodbye is dynamic and uplifting. For fans of The Aces and Willow, Circle The Earth breathes new life into the rock scene.

Hey Goodbye is energetic and full, giving the effect of a live show. From Khadia’s outstanding vocal belts to thunderous guitar and drums, Circle The Earth commands attention with each fiery anthem. “Sweetest Pain,” one of the EP’s singles, carries quick, booming drums and bold vocal harmonies. Tokaji’s melodic guitar solo gorgeously complements the song’s powerful rock style. These heavier tracks feel expansive, large enough to dominate any venue.

Pop and hip-hop elements shine through in tracks like “Dead.” Gritty guitar stands out against rap verses and bright, pop inspired background vocals. Khadia’s striking voice effortlessly shifts from forceful rock to earthy soul. “Pick Your Poison” features similar stylistic elements. With synthy beats and a catchy chorus punctuated by heavy guitar, this track is a sweeping fusion of pop and modern rock.

By featuring a lineup of members from across the U.S., Taiwan, Brazil, and Japan, all who bring an extensive range of professional experience, Circle The Earth joins a unique array of genres. The band strives to produce positive music with messages of unity and inclusion. Monumental and harmonizing, Hey Goodbye is an explosive, vibrant EP.
